Emissions Calculations
It’s the Planet bases its emissions calculations on data provided by the “Avoiding Mass Extinctions Engine” (‘AMEE’), a ‘neutral open platform for measuring the carbon footprint of anything and everything’, which has aggregated official CO2 data from over 130 countries and is continually updated as new information becomes available.
Although in principle the same climate-damaging emissions are released from the engine of an airplane as are released from the exhaust of a car (carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon and sulphur particles, as well as water vapour) these pollutants have a greater impact at high altitudes. The contribution of air traffic to global warming is on a global average 2 to 4 times higher than corresponding emissions would be on the ground. Therefore, the carbon footprint of flights will be multiplied by a factor of 3. Customers will find supporting evidence on the following website: www.grida.no/climate/ipcc/aviation/
Emissions factors can and do change over time as more scientific data is gathered. It’s the Planet does not assume responsibility to alter its emissions reductions liability for calculations that it has done in the past.
Sales
It’s the Planet takes no responsibility for any errors and omissions made by purchasers when entering their data into the It’s the Planet Carbon Calculator. When a purchaser makes a payment to offset his/ her CO2 emissions, It’s the Planet will fund projects on the purchaser’s behalf that will make a reduction in CO2 concentrations over time. The purchaser will receive a certificate by e-mail, to demonstrate that the emissions are being offset.
It’s the Planet undertakes not to sell any emissions reductions to more than one party. Purchasers may not resell Plan Vivo carbon credits unless they are registered Plan Vivo Resellers.
