IT'S THE PLANET CARBON CALCULATOR

It's the Planet's carbon calculator uses the AMEE database 1, which is continually updated with the latest research, to calculate your carbon footprint. We aim to provide one of the most comprehensive carbon calculators available and, unlike many, we also reward you for climate friendly behaviour. Changing food purchasing habits, growing your own food, composting green waste and recycling can significantly reduce the climate change impact of your lifestyle. Our calculator recognises your contribution by subtracting any carbon emissions saved (relative to the UK average) from your overall total.

You can either offset your entire annual carbon footprint, or if you prefer to offset a specific journey, such as your last holiday flights, please go straight to the flights section of the calculator.

To calculate your carbon footprint exactly, please have ready your utility bills for heating and electricity, and details of your travel (car mileage, or usual commuting distance if using public transport, flights, etc). If you don't have your bills, it is also possible to estimate your footprint using average values. Pressing enter will move you to the next page of the calculator each time.

There has been confusion in the media over the calculation of carbon emissions from air travel. Although in principle the same climate changing emissions are released from the engine of an airplane as are released from the exhaust of a car (carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon and sulphur particles, as well as water vapour) these pollutants have a greater impact at high altitudes. The contribution of air traffic to global warming is on a global average 2 to 4 times higher than corresponding emissions would be on the ground. Therefore, the carbon footprint of flights will be multiplied by a factor of 3.

Customers will find supporting evidence on the following website: http://www.grida.no/climate/ipcc/aviation/.

By registering with us, your data will be saved securely until your next visit.
